You can join in the with the cheering crowd at world-class sporting events or take to the slopes yourself (or bobsled!) for a true alpine adventure. Here are a few of our favorite suggestions as you plan your ultimate winter escape.
IBSF Skeleton Intercontinental Cup
Skeleton is a winter sport in which daredevil competitors ride a lean sled down an icy track – all while plummeting face down and head first. Don’t let the small look of the sled fool you – this sport offers more than just bare-bones fun, with lots of thrills and chills to inspire and delight audiences. This international event showcases rising skeleton bobsled athletes from January 18th, for the men’s competition, to January 19th, for the women’s. All IBSF events are free and open to the public.
Sundance Film Festival
Looking to be in on the latest movie buzz? This internationally famed ten-day film festival focuses on the work of independent filmmakers, screening thousands of acclaimed movies by both established names and up-and-comers within 13 different venues situated all across Park City. This year, the popular and famous festival adored by cinephiles offers you a glimpse of the most lauded new arrivals in the film industry from January 24 through February 3rd – so it’s not too late to make your reservations!
The 2019 FIS World Championships

Thrill to epic cross, slalom, halfpipe and big air snowboarding or enjoy electrifying freestyle aerial and mogul skiing. With a variety of events held daily from February 1 through 10, you’re sure to be amazed by what these athletes are capable of. And don’t forget about the epic closing party and concert!
Utah Olympic Park
Okay, this isn’t actually an event itself – but it does celebrate one! The breathtaking site of the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games still offers incredible excitement for visitors. Tour the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Museum to find Olympic themed memorabilia along with a fascinating museum display (including our favorite Olympian, Stein Eriksen). Race down the Comet Bobsled Track with a professional driver to guide you, or if you have the kids with you, let them explore the interactive Discovery Zone. These are all free attractions, but if you want to up the ante, consider buying a day pass, tubing down the Nordic Jump, or experiencing the thrill of bobsledding. Adventures await!
