Chef Zane Holmquist, a Utah native will guide you through a great day of riding on some of Deer Valley Resort’s® best single track trails.  You will start by riding the chairlift up to the top of the mountain then making your way back to the lodge for a great lunch prepared by Chef Zane with wines from Fisher Vineyards and David Arthur Vineyards.  This is sure to be a day you will enjoy and talk about for years to come.

Savor the Summit

Posted on June 12, 2012 by Sarah Myers | in Chef Zane, Events, Festivals and Concerts | Comments Off

Main Street in Park city is home to a myriad of restaurants of many different shapes, sizes and tastes. That is one of the reasons why the Park City Restaurant Association started the event, Savor the Summit. This event takes many of the amazing restaurants main street has to offer, and puts them on a table running down the middle of the street.

In the middle of it all

At Savor the Summit the street is closed off to traffic but the shops are still open to the general public. One large table, the “Grande Table”, is placed down the middle of Park City’s Main Street, this offers a dining experience that you can not find anywhere else. Music will accompany the meal to provide just the right ambiance. Savor the Summit takes place June 23 and is open to the general public to peruse Main Street, but if a taste is what you want, tickets sell out fast.

Reservations for Savor the Summit

Making reservations at the Savor the Summit event is simple. To reserve your seat, you must call one of the participating restaurants to make a reservation. There are over 20 restaurants that are offering their menus and more are being added. Menu prices range from $40-$150 a person. This is the 5th year the event has taken place, and every year it has sold out. So if you want to ensure your seat, call and make reservations quickly.

Utah Olympics and the Flying Ace Freestyle Show

This year, the Summer Olympic Games are taking place in London, England. If you can’t make it to see the games in person, it can still be exciting to watch the events unfold in the comforts of your own home. But if a ticket to London just isn’t in the works and you’re left craving some live Olympic action, come to Park City and enjoy the Flying Ace Freestyle Show.

The Show

Although the Olympic games taking place this year are the summer games, seekers can still find the same Olympic spirit and excitement at the Utah Olympic Legacy. One of the exciting events that you can watch is the Flying Ace Freestyle Show. Described as a “human fireworks show” Olympians and national-athletes in skiing and snowboarding soar up to 60-feet in the air to perform flips and tricks before coming down and splashing in a pool – all choreographed to music, of course. The show is about thirty minutes and runs every Saturday at 5 p.m. from June 9 – Sept. 1. The trip is a must see for families looking for a weekend activity.

Utah’s Olympic Legacy

Utah was the site of the 2002 Winter Olympic games and many events took place in Park City. So as to not forget the amazing event that graced Park City, the Utah Olympic Legacy was created. This is a non-profit organization that runs and maintains the Utah Olympic Facilities and gives the community a chance to participate and learn about winter sports and run family activities throughout both summer and winter.

Tickets can be purchased at the Utah Olympic Legacy museum.

The 2012 Music Festival at your Deer Valley Resort

The Utah Symphony, known for being one of the most engaged orchestras in the nation for its outreach and education concerts, will be returning to the Deer Valley Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater for the 2012 Deer Valley Music Festival summer concert series.

Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley,  is proud to be a partner of the festival and offer an overnight package for an experience unlike any other.  Order a gourmet picnic basket with a bottle of wine selected from our 10,000 cellar, borrow a blanket from the concierge and be shuttle to and from the concert venue in our complimentary Denali. Relax as the sun sets behind the slopes of the resort casting a glorious backdrop of color for the incredible musicianship of the symphony.

The Festival kicks off on July 7 with a Patriot Celebration, moves into high gear on July 14 with the Music of Michael Jackson, thrills fans of all ages with Disney in Concert: Magical Music from the Movies on August 3, and brings back, by popular-demand, Pink Martini on August 11.  The Symphony will spend a few nights performing famous classical pieces written by Mozart and Beethoven in addition to  teaming up conductor Larry Baird for a night with Kansas, the famous American rock band.  Earth, Wind and Fire, and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir all each have nights to perform with the Symphony as well.

Tickets can be purchased at Abravanel Hall Ticket Office, ArtTix outlets and in Park City at Deer Valley Resort Signature Stores.

Remembering the 2002 Winter Olympics

Posted on February 3, 2012 by Sarah Myers | in About Stein Eriksen Lodge, History of Park City | No Comments »

This month marks the 10th Anniversary of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Park City began celebrating on February 1 with a concert on Main Street followed by fireworks. The celebration, also the kick-start to the World Cup Event at Deer Valley Resort, brought a crowd out in the pounding snow to cheer and dance. The next morning I had the great fortune to ski the fresh snow with Olympian Heidi Volker at Deer Valley Resort.  Just a few hours later I was rooting for Hannah Kearney at the World Cup Individual Mogul event at Deer Valley as she won her 12th consecutive World Cup mogul title.

On the drive back from the former Olympic venue, I realized how alive the Olympic spirit is in Park City.  Not only is it the chosen home for the United States Ski and Snowboard Team’s state-of-the-art training facility, The Center of Excellence; athletes travel here to train year-round. The Utah Olympic Park, for example, is a venue that houses the Alf Engen Ski Museum but also serves as a training and competition venue for Bobsled, Skeleton, Aerials and Nordic Ski Jumping.

In addition to providing current athletes with the tools for success, Park City is proud to be the home of retired Olympic athlete, Stein Eriksen. Each day I have the great pleasure of walking past his trophy case in the Main Lodge with Stein’s two Olympic medals predominantly displayed. For the past sixty years, Stein Eriksen has revolutionized the world of alpine skiing and is credited with devising the freestyle event “aerials.”

In celebration of tonight’s World Cup Aerial Events, it is my pleasure to share with you some images of Stein Eriksen.

Sundance Film Festival

Each January film lovers gather in Park City for the Sundance Film Festival. Over the 10-day festival more than 200 films are shown in addition to live music performances, panel discussions and parties.

This year Mother Nature decided to participate in the festivities by blanketing the town in 48″ of snow over the past three days. Skiing at Deer Valley Resort is incredible with all 21 lifts turning. The Main Lodge is bustling with skiers and movie goers enjoying lunch or aprés by the fire.

On January 23, Brooke Anderson hosted a segment of  The Insider from Stein Eriksen Lodge. Watch her interview with Spa Director Jill Van Ausdal here.

Radiant Skin at 8,200 Feet? You bet!

Guests often ask our therapists what products they should use to combat dry skin.   Although it is challenging maintaining a healthy glow through the winter months, it is not impossible. The Spa at Stein Eriksen Lodge is honored to partner with Amala to provide guests the highest quality skincare products.

I discussed the benefits of the Amala Hydrate line with Assistant Spa Director, Breann Vail. “The benefits of the hydrate line is it will restore lasting moisture to dull, dehydrated skin and smooth dry, uneven texture and soothe chapped sensitive skin.”  All of these benefits are perfect for guests effected by the dry climate and altitude. “I also always recommend drinking lots and lots of water to keep your skin hydrated,” says Breann.
