This weekend I purchased sunscreen for my family on our way out for three hours of cross-country skiing. UV-B rays are just as intense in the winter and spring and can cause serious sunburn, we all should be very careful about being exposed unprotected to the sun for any extended period of time. And reflection from snow increases the risk of damage to your skin.
While I lather sunscreen on every exposed inch of myself and loved ones when we are heading out on the weekends. I realized I have been too complacent with my daily sun protection in recent months. I detest putting smelly facial creams on in the morning.
The solution? This amazing product, Eminences SPF 30 Sun Defense Minerals, which I found at the Spa at Stein Eriksen Lodge. The powder is hypoallergenic, easy to apply over my daily non-spf facial cream, loaded with vitamins, and available in six shades for added cosmetic coverage.

We are proud to included a new locally made product in this winter’s spa menu, particularly for manicures and pedicures. Salt Of The Earth, headquartered out of Salt Lake City, produces a line of custom salt and sugar scrubs, lotions and bath fizz. We chose this company because they share the same philosophy as The Spa at Stein Eriksen Lodge; to create experiences for our guests; to help people feel pampered, relaxed, energized, and refreshed.
The salt used in this line of products is produced through natural evaporation in shallow pools along the Great Salt Lake. It is then harvested, washed, screened and packaged in 40% recycled plastic containers.
“Salt is a simple mineral with an ancient history – a source of purity and balance used in every culture on Earth since before there was time! Salt of the Earth uses pure sea salt extracted from the Great Salt Lake, a remnant of one of Earth’s prehistoric lakes.” – saltearthspa.com
The Spa at Stein Eriksen Lodge chose six scents from the vast array of scents offered by the company; Bamboo & Teak, Cabana Boy (hints of coconut), Cool Water, Cosmopolitan, Juniper Black Currant and Thai Silk. During a treatment therapist literally hand mixes natural ingredients with essential scents to create products as unique as our customers. The spa also sells the pre-mixed salt scrubs, bath fizz and body crème in all six scents.

If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of experiencing our newly renovated Norwegian spa, you’re in for an absolute treat. Part of the magic of the expansion to 20,000 square feet is in the layout. The natural beauty of cedar, pine and stone flows from the welcoming entry into spacious, meticulously detailed men’s and women’s locker lounges (each with its own steam, sauna, hot and icy plunges) to a series of cozy, accommodating spaces.

The women’s relaxation room is all warm earth tones, plush upholstery, and soft carpet with a soothing fireplace. Two private day-bed alcoves invite you to cuddle up and close the curtains if you like. The adjoining solarium is perfect for taking in the views or enjoying the perfect spa lunch.

We’ve also added a new hair salon and gorgeous pedicure room. Among our 16 new treatment rooms, we invite you to try the romantic couple’s treatment suite and two luxurious Vichy wet treatment rooms. In fact, now is the perfect time to try one of our signature spa treatments or packages.

View of the Spa from Silver Lake Village
The Spa at Stein Eriksen Lodge renovation is on schedule and will open on December 4, 2009. With the expansion from 9 to 16 treatment rooms we have the flexibility to add new and exiting treatments to the 2009/2010 winter spa menu.

The Women's Relaxation Room
While the entire treatment menu is designed to combat the high altitude and dry climate in Park City, there are some exiting new treatments worth noting. First, The Great Salt Stone Therapy treatment which utilizes salt candles and salt massage stones to remove toxins from the air and body through the production of negative ions. The Crystalliline Gemstone Facial that utilizes the energy of micronized crystalline gemstones blended with bentonite clay to create a high energy, tightening and detoxifying result. Lastly, the High Altitude Package which combines three of the spa’s signature treatments with a focus on replenishing the body’s oxygen supply.

The outdoor heated pool deck
The new fitness facilities will include a wide selection of fitness equipment, including resistance machines, weights, stair machines, and treadmills. Guests can also enjoy breathtaking views of Deer Valley Resort from the year round outdoor heated pool, unwind in the outdoor hot tub and gather around the new fire place which was installed during the recent 2,000 square foot expansion of the deck.

The spa renovation is well underway. As you turn onto Stein Way, you now see the dirt road that was created for all the machinery. Today I went to investigate and see the progress. I was amazed at how much of the building has been removed. The entire front face of the spa has been removed along with an third of the building (the right side).

The first stages of the Spa expansion have begun
I am pleased to announce that The Spa has been vacated and relocated to suite 271 for the summer.
Despite the light rain the backhoe is busy excavating the land adjacent to the existing spa where the expansion will be built.
