The 2012 Music Festival at your Deer Valley Resort

The Utah Symphony, known for being one of the most engaged orchestras in the nation for its outreach and education concerts, will be returning to the Deer Valley Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater for the 2012 Deer Valley Music Festival summer concert series.

Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley,  is proud to be a partner of the festival and offer an overnight package for an experience unlike any other.  Order a gourmet picnic basket with a bottle of wine selected from our 10,000 cellar, borrow a blanket from the concierge and be shuttle to and from the concert venue in our complimentary Denali. Relax as the sun sets behind the slopes of the resort casting a glorious backdrop of color for the incredible musicianship of the symphony.

The Festival kicks off on July 7 with a Patriot Celebration, moves into high gear on July 14 with the Music of Michael Jackson, thrills fans of all ages with Disney in Concert: Magical Music from the Movies on August 3, and brings back, by popular-demand, Pink Martini on August 11.  The Symphony will spend a few nights performing famous classical pieces written by Mozart and Beethoven in addition to  teaming up conductor Larry Baird for a night with Kansas, the famous American rock band.  Earth, Wind and Fire, and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir all each have nights to perform with the Symphony as well.

Tickets can be purchased at Abravanel Hall Ticket Office, ArtTix outlets and in Park City at Deer Valley Resort Signature Stores.

Remembering the 2002 Winter Olympics

Posted on February 3, 2012 by Sarah Myers | in About Stein Eriksen Lodge, History of Park City | No Comments »

This month marks the 10th Anniversary of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Park City began celebrating on February 1 with a concert on Main Street followed by fireworks. The celebration, also the kick-start to the World Cup Event at Deer Valley Resort, brought a crowd out in the pounding snow to cheer and dance. The next morning I had the great fortune to ski the fresh snow with Olympian Heidi Volker at Deer Valley Resort.  Just a few hours later I was rooting for Hannah Kearney at the World Cup Individual Mogul event at Deer Valley as she won her 12th consecutive World Cup mogul title.

On the drive back from the former Olympic venue, I realized how alive the Olympic spirit is in Park City.  Not only is it the chosen home for the United States Ski and Snowboard Team’s state-of-the-art training facility, The Center of Excellence; athletes travel here to train year-round. The Utah Olympic Park, for example, is a venue that houses the Alf Engen Ski Museum but also serves as a training and competition venue for Bobsled, Skeleton, Aerials and Nordic Ski Jumping.

In addition to providing current athletes with the tools for success, Park City is proud to be the home of retired Olympic athlete, Stein Eriksen. Each day I have the great pleasure of walking past his trophy case in the Main Lodge with Stein’s two Olympic medals predominantly displayed. For the past sixty years, Stein Eriksen has revolutionized the world of alpine skiing and is credited with devising the freestyle event “aerials.”

In celebration of tonight’s World Cup Aerial Events, it is my pleasure to share with you some images of Stein Eriksen.

Historic Main Street just minutes from the hotel via complimentary shuttle service.

Once known as Kimball Corner, the original Kimball Art Center building on the property operated as a livery stable built to serve the tiny mining community. In 1929, the site transformed into the Kimball Brothers Garage and for 43 years the garage served Park City’s automotive needs. In 1976, arts enthusiast Bill Kimball, along with support from members of the Park City community, transformed the dilapidated garage into a non-profit community center for the visual arts. Since that time, the Kimball Art Center has served art lovers in the Park City area by providing top quality exhibitions and events. Today the Kimball Art Center is free and open to the public year-round offering classes for children and adults.

Make a weekend of the event and book the Summer Renewal Package which includes a deluxe bedroom and three course dinner in the Glitretind Restaurant.

Ski Valets…29 Years of Service

Posted on February 15, 2011 by Sarah Myers | in About Stein Eriksen Lodge | No Comments »

Stein Eriksen Lodge has offered guests ski valet services for the past 29 years. Our locker room is a mere 200 yards from the Sterling Express Lift at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, UT.

During the winter season it’s common to read guest comments like:

“This is my favorite service at Steins. The ski valets make the trip worth every penny. They are kind, considerate and seem genuinely gracious.”

“The locker room and ski valet staff are fantastic…The assistance with boot and skis, overnight boot drying, and related services went far beyond anything we have experienced elsewhere and made our trip all the more special.”

“ The ski locker staff is incredible, and for us, the ski valet services are what make Steins stand apart as a luxury ski-in/out property.”

After hearing guests rave about the service, I decided I needed to experience it for myself. To make sure I had the full experience I began with breakfast in the Glitretind complete with maple glazed bacon, salmon benedict and fresh fruit. Around 9am I strolled down from the Main Lodge to the locker room in my ski clothing and comfortable sneakers. The ski valets were ready and waiting.

Ryan greeted me and showed me to my locker where he assisted me with my boots. For anyone who has ever struggled trying to pull the tongue of a ski boot up and away from your foot while simultaneously pushing your foot down, this service is for you. In no time my boots were comfortably on my feet and Ryan was taking my skis and poles to the snow while I made final adjustments to my helmet and goggles.  I made sure to apply a bit of sunscreen, provided at the valet desk, before heading out on one of the many blue bird days this season.

Ryan ready to assist me with my skis

Ryan brushed the snow from my boots and guided my foot into my binding. Two solid clicks later I was ready to go. I waved and thanked Ryan as I glided towards the Sterling Lift for my ski adventure.

Upon my return, Roger appeared with a big smile asking me how my day was.  As I gushed about the grooming and the terrain, he gathered my skis and poles and placed them on the rack. He would later return them to my locker where they would be securely stored for the night.

I agree with our guests, these gentlemen represent the genuinely friendly nature of the Lodge. I am extremely proud to work for a property that provides this kind of service to all guests.

Smart Meeting Event

Posted on June 9, 2010 by Sarah Myers | in About Stein Eriksen Lodge | No Comments »

We were so honored to host the recent Smart Meeting Event at Stein Eriksen Lodge this week. Approximately seventy-six meeting planners and hoteliers gathered for the two and a half day event. The program included several great speakers, one-on-one appointments, great networking meal functions and an afternoon at the Utah Olympic Park complete with the Flying Ace Aerial Show. Participants also had the opportunity to try bobsledding, the world’s steepest zip line and the alpine coaster.

Most of the meeting planers and hoteliers had never been to Park City and were pleasantly surprised by our accessibility, beautiful scenery, weather, recreational options and meeting facilities.

We thank all the participants and Smart Meetings staff for a wonderful event and we hope to see them return to the lodge in the future.
