The 2012 Music Festival at your Deer Valley Resort

The Utah Symphony, known for being one of the most engaged orchestras in the nation for its outreach and education concerts, will be returning to the Deer Valley Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater for the 2012 Deer Valley Music Festival summer concert series.

Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley,  is proud to be a partner of the festival and offer an overnight package for an experience unlike any other.  Order a gourmet picnic basket with a bottle of wine selected from our 10,000 cellar, borrow a blanket from the concierge and be shuttle to and from the concert venue in our complimentary Denali. Relax as the sun sets behind the slopes of the resort casting a glorious backdrop of color for the incredible musicianship of the symphony.

The Festival kicks off on July 7 with a Patriot Celebration, moves into high gear on July 14 with the Music of Michael Jackson, thrills fans of all ages with Disney in Concert: Magical Music from the Movies on August 3, and brings back, by popular-demand, Pink Martini on August 11.  The Symphony will spend a few nights performing famous classical pieces written by Mozart and Beethoven in addition to  teaming up conductor Larry Baird for a night with Kansas, the famous American rock band.  Earth, Wind and Fire, and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir all each have nights to perform with the Symphony as well.

Tickets can be purchased at Abravanel Hall Ticket Office, ArtTix outlets and in Park City at Deer Valley Resort Signature Stores.

We are pleased to announce that The Spa at Stein Eriksen Lodge is Utah’s first spa to receive the Forbes Five-Star award. There are just 30 spas in the world that can claim this accolade.

For more than 50 years, Forbes Travel Guide’s Five-Star ratings have been the gold standard by which hotels, restaurants and spas are measured. The hospitality industry respects and reveres the Five-Star rating system, and travelers put their faith in it as they decide where to stay, dine and explore.

To win this distinction within a year of expanding and enhancing our spa is truly exhilarating. Read more…

Ridge Vineyards

I attended a symposium at Ridge Vineyards this May.
Located in the Santa Cruz Mountains Ridge Vineyards was instrumental in creating a vineyard driven expression of a vintage year. Each year the percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc changes depending on the how the grapes taste after they have finished their elevage. Their Montebello bottling is blended by a team who jointly recommend the blend for the vintage. Each year the blend of the Montebello will change slightly. Montebello ages very well. The 1992 I had in 2011 was perfectly poised and very beautiful. The 1978 Montebello was graceful and silky. The 2000 vintage tasted in 2011 felt very young with many years of bottle aging ahead.

It is with great please that we welcome Ann Giles Weisford to our staff.  We are so please that Ann, her husband and two English bulldogs have relocated to Park City, Utah.  Ann is a New Jersey native who’s family relocated to Winston-Salem, NC when she was ten. There she developed her passion for horseback riding. She attended the University of North Carolina and majored in Art History, studying abroad in London and Norway. Upon graduation she moved to Chicago and began working in the restaurant industry.

The Lodge will continue the time honored traditions of the annual holiday gingerbread creation which is the centerpiece of the holiday decorations in the Main Lodge (more gingerbread information to come soon) and the house made chocolate program under Ann’s direction. We will provide regular updates here and on Chef Zane’s blog in regards to the Winter and holiday menus.

8th Annual Food & Wine Celebration to benefit Veggie U

Posted on July 14, 2010 by Sarah Myers | in News, The Glitretind | No Comments »

On July 17, 2010, Chef Zane and 30 of the top chefs from around the country are converging on Ohio to attend the 8th Annual Veggie U Food & Wine Celebration. Why? Because it benefits an organization solely focused on helping kids become healthy adults…Veggie U!

Veggie U, a not-for-profit organization at the Culinary Vegetable Institute, is committed to fostering a synergy between educational, nutritional and agricultural goals to combat the rising epidemic of childhood obesity. Veggie Ujoined forces with tops chefs, such as Holmquist, some of the area’s finest educators, a nutritionist and a local physician to see how the program could impact the childhood obesity challenge.

A group of area Master Teachers spent more than 18 months volunteering their free time to formulate a curriculum teaching an Earth to Table™ concept aimed at fourth graders. A kit complete with seeds, soil, flats, root view boxes, grow lights and a worm farm gives teachers needed materials for this hands-on study. These materials allow the student to see, hear, taste, feel and experience the process of planting, growing and harvesting a crop in their classroom. And the best outcome is the opportunity to eat their results!

It’s through fundraising events like the 8th Annual Food & Wine Celebration, as well as generous private and corporate donations, that Veggie U can continue to promote good eating habits for generations to come.

For over 25 years The Chef’s Garden has been renown for supplying the worlds best Chef’s and restaurants, including Chef Zane and the Glitretind, and now you can bring that reputation and nutrition home to your kitchen!

Smart Meeting Event

Posted on June 9, 2010 by Sarah Myers | in News, The Lodge | No Comments »

We were so honored to host the recent Smart Meeting Event at Stein Eriksen Lodge this week. Approximately seventy-six meeting planners and hoteliers gathered for the two and a half day event. The program included several great speakers, one-on-one appointments, great networking meal functions and an afternoon at the Utah Olympic Park complete with the Flying Ace Aerial Show. Participants also had the opportunity to try bobsledding, the world’s steepest zip line and the alpine coaster.

Most of the meeting planers and hoteliers had never been to Park City and were pleasantly surprised by our accessibility, beautiful scenery, weather, recreational options and meeting facilities.

We thank all the participants and Smart Meetings staff for a wonderful event and we hope to see them return to the lodge in the future.
