I attended a symposium at Ridge Vineyards this May.
Located in the Santa Cruz Mountains Ridge Vineyards was instrumental in creating a vineyard driven expression of a vintage year. Each year the percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc changes depending on the how the grapes taste after they have finished their elevage. Their Montebello bottling is blended by a team who jointly recommend the blend for the vintage. Each year the blend of the Montebello will change slightly. Montebello ages very well. The 1992 I had in 2011 was perfectly poised and very beautiful. The 1978 Montebello was graceful and silky. The 2000 vintage tasted in 2011 felt very young with many years of bottle aging ahead.

Mary Brown Malouf, of Salt Lake Magazine, attended a Spa tour and luncheon at the Stein Eriksen Lodge. “My tour of the new spa at Stein Eriksen last week included a spa cuisine lunch: halibut, risotto, carrot Waldorf salad, yogurt. The star of the show was the risotto, a creamy, nubbly comfort dish colored a pretty spring green and sweet with fresh peas,” wrote Malouf in the magazines blog, On The Table.

If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of experiencing our newly renovated Norwegian spa, you’re in for an absolute treat. Part of the magic of the expansion to 20,000 square feet is in the layout. The natural beauty of cedar, pine and stone flows from the welcoming entry into spacious, meticulously detailed men’s and women’s locker lounges (each with its own steam, sauna, hot and icy plunges) to a series of cozy, accommodating spaces.

The women’s relaxation room is all warm earth tones, plush upholstery, and soft carpet with a soothing fireplace. Two private day-bed alcoves invite you to cuddle up and close the curtains if you like. The adjoining solarium is perfect for taking in the views or enjoying the perfect spa lunch.

We’ve also added a new hair salon and gorgeous pedicure room. Among our 16 new treatment rooms, we invite you to try the romantic couple’s treatment suite and two luxurious Vichy wet treatment rooms. In fact, now is the perfect time to try one of our signature spa treatments or packages.

The 2010 Sundance Film Festivalis three short days away. The next ten days are prime for people watching here at the Lodge as well as in Park City. It is not uncommon to see celebrities walking through the Main Lodge on their way to Skiers’ Buffet or to the Troll Hallen Lounge for Apres Ski.
This year there are over 200 dramatic, documentary, and short films presented at the festival. Tickets are now available online. In addition to films there is the music cafe which features various artists over eight days of the festival including one of my all-time favorites Grace Potter & The Nocturnals.
