Best Hotel in Park City

Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley is pleased to welcome guests to the Best Ski Hotel in the World, as awarded by the World Ski Awards, to enjoy legendary services and accommodations, world-renowned skiing and plentiful outdoor recreation. Named after Norwegian Olympic Gold Medal skier Stein Eriksen and nestled mid-mountain in the alpine setting at Deer Valley Resort, Stein Eriksen Lodge is a European getaway in the heart of Park City, Utah. More than a resort hotel, and recently named the best hotel in the world, Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley, has become a legend in its own right, offering guests an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life

At Utah’s only Forbes Five-Star hotel, guests enjoy ski-in/ski-out access to Deer Valley Resort, Forbes Four Star dining at Glitretind and Troll Hallen, a Forbes Five-Star 23,000-square-foot spa, heated outdoor pool, heated outdoor walkways and après ski, making Stein Eriksen Lodge a premiere year-round resort destination.

A mere 45-minute ride from Salt Lake City International Airport, guests take solace from the world in one of our 180 rooms or suites, each one designed with rich colors, natural textures, and sumptuous fabrics, and each echoing elements of Norway’s traditional style mixed with contemporary American aesthetics. More than 145 stone fireplaces throughout the property, many en-suite, add coziness and warmth to the cathedral ceilings in the well-appointed common areas.

Norwegian born and raised in a family of Nordic ski enthusiasts, Stein Eriksen was an avid ski jumper by the age of five. Off to a winning start, Stein attracted world attention in the 1952 Olympic Games in Oslo, Norway, when he won the Gold Medal in the Men's Giant Slalom. Two years later, at the FIS World Championships, Stein captured three Gold Medals for Slalom, Giant Slalom and Combined.

In 1955, in the prime of his racing career, Stein left his native country to make America his home. Setting the world ablaze, Stein pioneered and introduced the "Aerial Somersault" to America, opening the door to aerial and acrobatic skiing and prompting many to call Stein the "Father of Modern Skiing."

Stein settled in Park City, Utah with his wife, Francoise, and son, Bjorn. In addition to Stein's contributions to the industry, he served as a ski instructor, ski school director, ski shop owner and consultant to many ski equipment companies. Most recently, Stein served as the Director of Skiing at Deer Valley Resort for more than 35 years.

Legendary Olympic Gold Medalist, Stein Eriksen passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the age of 88. Stein is survived by his wife of 35 years, Francoise, son Bjorn, three daughters, Julianna, Ava and Anja and five grandchildren. Stein was an amazing husband, father and figurehead in the skiing community. He paved the way for many young athletes who followed his lead by dreaming big and making the impossible possible. He brought style and grace to the sport he loved so much. Please join us in remembering this wonderful man who will never be forgotten.
